The Gospel of Barnabas is a gospel. That is, it is the life of Jesus intended as a first-hand observer, equivalent to a picture (pictured) in the Bible. However, it is unique in Apocrypha because it is a Muslim gospel. That is, it presents Jesus not as God, but as a prophet, and a forerunner of Muhammad. According to Western Scholarship, this is a fourteenth-century forgery, now only available in Spanish and Italian versions, but there is even disagreement among scholars as to whether some of the material in the book is old or not.
The Gospel has been picked up by some modern Muslims, though as an authentic and ancient record of events, and there are many different printed copies available from various Muslim publishing houses, based on which the rags presented here. However, it should be emphasized that belief in this Gospel is by no means a matter of Islamic belief, and this site is not a place to discuss the authenticity of this book or how widespread belief is about it.
