The main source of information about Mir’s life is his autobiography Zikr Mir, which covers the period from his childhood to the beginning of his stay in Lucknow.  However, much more is said to be revealed,  with material that is hidden or not presented in any chronological order. Therefore, many ‘real details’ of Mir’s life remain a matter of speculation.
Mir was born in August or February 1723 in the Indian city of Agra (then called Akbarabad and under the Mughal rule).  His grandfather had migrated from Hijaz to Hyderabad State, then to Akbarabad or Agra. His philosophy of life was formed primarily by his father, Mir Abdullah, who had a large following, a religious man, who lived with Mir all his life on the importance of love and the value of compassion.
